FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP): Demolition work has started at a Fort Wayne church that members are planning to rebuild after it was badly damaged by a fire.
A crane was at Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church on Wednesday to begin removing the roof from the building that was damaged in the Dec. 31 fire blamed on an electrical problem.
Pastor Steven Conner says that the demolition will remove the sanctuary area down to the building slab. Construction on the new sanctuary is expected to start next spring.
Church members have been meeting in undamaged parts of the building on the city's northeast side since the fire.
Conner says that the fire led church members to focus more on their community rather than a building.
