LAPORTE, Ind. (AP) – A northern Indiana native hopes to turn a short documentary about a LaPorte woman who was suspected of killing dozens of people into a full-length feature film.
Producer Steve Ruminski worked with LaPorte County teacher Bruce Johnson to turn a historical presentation on Gunness into a documentary titled “The Gunness Mystery.'' Now he is taking a 20-minute film about Gunness on the festival circuit in hopes of attracting filmmakers interested in a full-length movie.
Ruminski tells The Times (http://bit.ly/1IvgxD2 ) he grew up hearing about the woman known as Lady Bluebeard and says her story is an intriguing tale of love, money, greed and murder.
“Belle'' focuses on the relationship between Gunness and her adopted daughter, Jennie Olsen. Filming has taken place in Michigan, LaPorte and Portage.
