Feds Raid West Central Indiana Sheriff’s Office

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (AP) – Prosecutors say federal agents have raided a west central Indiana sheriff's office in connection with an excessive force case.

WISH reports the U.S. Attorney's office in Indianapolis says federal agents removed several boxes from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office in Greencastle, about 40 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

WISH reports the raid was in connection with the case of former Putnam County Deputy Sheriff Terry Joe Smith. Smith was sentenced to 14 months in prison this month after being found guilty of using excessive force on two people he arrested. Smith's attorney has said he will appeal his convictions.

WISH says few other details about the raid were available.
