Fatal Moped Crash in Noble County

NOBLE COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A man is dead after a moped crash. Around midnight Friday, Noble County Dispatch got a call that a person, 18-year-old Ryan Foster, of Kendallville, had hit a moped that appeared to have been abandoned in the middle of a road. As officers responded, the person called back saying they had found someone on the side of the road and did not know if the victim was still alive. First responders found a white man laying in the ditch who was unresponsive with a severe head injury. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man has been identified as 53-year-old Jeffery Bogenschutz, of Garrett. Police say it appears Bogenschutz was driving on Baseline Rd when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of the moped and laid it down onto its side. The second vehicle came along a short time later and hit the moped. The crash remains under investigation.
