Farm Bureau Expresses Opposition to Mounds Lake Reservoir

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – The Delaware County Farm Bureau has become the latest group out in opposition to the proposed Mounds Lake reservoir.

Officials of the organization raised several objections to the project, which would dam White River in Anderson and create a 2,100-acre lake at a projected cost of more than $400 million.

Farm Bureau officials Kaye Whitehead and Joe Russell told Delaware County Commissions on Monday the project would “remove valuable land resources of both crop and hardwood production.'' In addition, they claim a loss of property tax revenue and an increase in mosquito breeding.

A series of groups, including the League of Women Voters, and reports critical of the Mounds Lake plan have been released in recent weeks.

The commissioners did not act on the comments of Whitehead and Russell.
