Ex-Teacher Admits Sending Texts to Former Student

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ A former northern Indiana fifth-grade teacher charged with sending sexually explicit text messages to a former student has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of inappropriate communication with a child.

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says 31-year-old Eric West of Osceola pleaded guilty Tuesday. He faces up to a year in prison when he is sentenced on Aug. 20.

West was a teacher at Walt Disney Elementary School in Mishawaka east of South Bend when the girl's mother told investigators she found more than 250 explicit text messages to her daughter from West's cellphone last year. The girl was 12 years old at the time.

West was fired after he was charged last October.
