INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indiana lawmaker who’s a former Hammond police captain says she worries that teachers or other civilians with guns in schools would be ineffective against potential attackers.
 
  Democratic Rep. Linda Lawson told a House committee Tuesday that it’s wrong to allow non-police officers to be armed in schools. 
 
  Lawson spoke before the committee voted in favor of a bill that would have local school boards decide every year whether they wanted to have gun-carrying employees.
 
  Meanwhile, Republican Attorney General Greg Zoeller says he’s concerned that the bill is losing its original emphasis of helping school districts buy safety equipment and hire police officers.
 
  Supporters of having armed employees say it would lessen the vulnerability of schools to violent attacks such as the December school shooting in Connecticut.
