Ex-Indy Lawyer Conour Gets 10 Years in Fraud Case

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ An Indianapolis judge has sentenced a former attorney to 10 years in prison for defrauding clients of $4.5 million in hopes the defendant will live long enough to repay his victims.

William Conour pleaded guilty in July to defrauding clients who included his daughter over the past decade. He faced up to 20 years in prison.

The Indianapolis Star reports the 66-year-old Conour has been ordered to pay $7 million in restitution to 36 victims.

Conour apologized to his family, clients and other attorneys in court Thursday.

His plea prompted Indiana University to announce it would remove Conour's name from the atrium at the McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis and give a $450,000 donation he made to the school to his victims.
