Evansville Woman Charged in Husband’s Death

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) _ A 47-year-old Evansville woman and her daughter's boyfriend face preliminary charges of murder in the shooting death of her 68-year-old estranged husband.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports Brenda Dossett and 19-year-old Mason Hughes were arrested after police found the body of Gilbert Dossett in his bed Thursday night. Police believe Brenda Dossett offered to give Hughes a vehicle costing less than $10,000 to kill her husband with money from a $42,000 life insurance policy payout she expected to receive.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Hughes admitted to shooting Dossett while he slept.

It was not immediately known if Dossett or Hughes had hired attorneys.

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Kyle Phernetton says formal charges are expected to be filed next week.
