Evansville Struggling with Water Main Breaks

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP): Utility crews faced at least a dozen more water main breaks in Evansville over the weekend as they worked to fix water system troubles around the city.

Water department superintendent Mike Duckworth says most of the breaks were repaired Sunday, although one kept part of U.S. 41 on the city's north side closed into Monday.

The city also is also advising customers in many areas to boil their water before using it for drinking or cooking.

Officials blame nearly 30 main breaks on last week's subzero temperatures and many pipes predating the 1930s.

Duckworth says water levels remained good but that the breaks must be fixed in order to fill the system to capacity.
