Ethics Committee to Vote Next Week on Turner

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): The House Ethics Committee has formally set the date to make its recommendations regarding Cicero Republican Eric Turner. Committee members plan to vote next Wednesday on whether Turner violated ethics rules by arguing against a nursing-home moratorium bill in a closed-door caucus.

At a hearing this week, the panel seemed to signal there‘s no violation — chairman Greg Steuerwald notes House rules prohibit introducing or voting on bills in which a member has a direct interest. Turner did neither of those things, and noted in written answers to the committee that House rules also encourage members to share their “expertise” in particular subjects with fellow legislators.

Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) has asked the committee not only to resolve the issue of Turner‘s conduct, but to consider whether any tightening of the rules is needed.
