Equipment Dealer Plans Evansville Expansion

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Officials say an Evansville packaging company with customers in more than 35 countries will invest $5.5 million in a new plant and create up to 43 new jobs by 2018.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. and the city of Evansville said Monday that Sigma Packaging currently has only 27 full-time workers currently but will hire 17 more immediately as it expands its operations. The 11-year-old company buys and resells pre-owned packaging and processing equipment for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and consumer product industries.

The IEDC offered Sigma Packaging up to $350,000 in conditional tax credits. The Growth Alliance for Greater Evansville is promoting a 10-year tax abatement and a $30,000 training grant for newly hired Evansville residents.
