Environmentalists Monitor Effects of Warsaw Chemical Fire

WARSAW, Ind. (WOWO): After a fire at Warsaw Chemical, officials are monitoring Winona Lake and surrounding wildlife.

Chemicals from the fire spilled into the lake causing a loss of ice. Conservation Officers with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources said they haven't noticed any deaths or other negative effects on the wildlife, could have occurred by now.

An unknown amount of chemicals spilled into Winona Lake and fishermen were advised to stay off of the lake and avoid eating fish until further notice. The DNR says Winona Lake lost a lot of ice, but once the lake freezes over again, ice fishing without worry should be possible.
