Elkhart County Officer’s Patrol Car Struck By Suspected Drunk Driver

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): A suspected drunken driver picked the one of the worst possible vehicles to smash into when he struck an Elkhart County squad car. It happened Thursday around 5:00am on Old US 33 west of Nappanee Street in Elkhart. Police say Robert Flowers of South Bend approachd to curve when he left the road and collided into the patrol car, causing extensive damage. An officer with the Sheriff's department was in the vehicle, which was parked off the roadway. He was not injured. After striking the squad car, police say Flowers then hit a signpost and guide wires for a power pole. His blood alcohol count was nearly twice the legal limit. Police say he was previously convicted fo drunk driving back in 2011 and had a license that was suspended with prior convictions.
