INDIANAPOLIS (AP): The 2012 election ended more than two years ago, but the surprise upset by Democratic schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz appears to have settled little in the war between Democrats and public school supporters and conservative education reformers.
 
Governor Mike Pence surprised many last week when he announced he would seek to have a gubernatorial appointee chair the State Board of Education. Ritz serves as the panel's chairwoman but has presided over visceral, marathon fights with board members appointed by Pence and former Governor Mitch Daniels, both Republicans.
 
The Pence announcement is a reminder that in some ways, the election never ended. The fighting just moved from the campaign trail to the board meetings.
 
Starting in January, that war will engulf the Indiana General Assembly as it tackles Pence's proposal.
