EACS taxpayers to see property tax increase

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Taxpayers living in the East Allen County Schools (EACS) district might have to pay more in property taxes soon.

The Journal Gazette reports the tax on a home worth $100,000 could go up $33 for 2017, based on what was said at last night’s school board meeting. EACS Chief Financial Officer Kirby Stahly cited the district’s new $87.5-million building program as the reason.

It won’t be an across-the-board increase, however, but will only impact property owners whose taxes haven’t reached the state’s tax cap yet.

The program will fund projects like new secure entrances at several EACS buildings, plus a number of renovations in the New Haven portion of the district.
