ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WOWO): Some local school officials are trying to be proactive in the wake of a deadly school shooting last month in Florida.

Last night, East Allen County Schools officials held the first of several meetings set for this week to talk about school safety. The meeting was held simultaneously at Leo and New Haven High Schools, as administrators went over emergency protocols.

Superintendent Marilyn Hissong told our Partners in News at ABC 21 that includes what information school officials can and cannot release, such as the names of students responsible for threats.

“Some things parents want to know, I understand why they want to know those things, but we are obligated by law to protect students,” Hissong said. “I hope we never get really good at this because I hope there aren’t a ton of these (threats) in the future.”

Meetings are also set for East Allen University, as well as Woodlan and Heritage Junior-Senior High Schools, this week.
