Dozens Pray At Vigil For 11-Month-Old Abuse Victim

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) _ Dozens of people prayed and lit candles during a vigil outside the South Bend home where police say a woman killed her 11-month-old son after badly injuring his sister earlier this year.

The father of Micahyah Crockett tells reporters he's devastated by the boy's death. Micahyah Greer says his son was a joyful baby and he never thought he'd be burying his own child.

Hayah Binion says the support from Tuesday evening's vigil for her grandson helped the family.

Hours before the vigil, 21-year-old Nyesha Crockett pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges for her son's death over the weekend and injuries in February to then-14-month-old Alaiyah Crockett. Police say Alaiyah has been in a vegetative state since being smothered.
