INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Senator Joe Donnelly has co-sponsored and helped pass a resolution designating June 2014 as National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month. A release sent by Donnelly's office says the designation will help increase awareness of PTSD and related health risks while reducing the stigma associated with it. Donnelly said it's critical to “take action to respond to those who are suffering from the invisible wounds of war.” According to the resolution, since October 2001, over 310,000 Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans who have received health care from the VA have been diagnosed with PTSD. This is the second year in a row the Senate has designated a month for national PTSD awareness.
