Donations to Fight Hunger will Mark Governor Pence’s 55th Birthday

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): To honor Governor Mike Pence's 55th birthday on Saturday, the Indiana Republican Party is asking its state convention participants to donate to Community Harvest Food Bank.

More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the 2014 Indiana Republican State Convention being held Friday and Saturday at the Grand Wayne Center in Fort Wayne. Attendees are asked to donate non-perishable food items or make direct monetary contributions.

“Governor Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, are passionate about giving a helping hand to Hoosiers who are struggling to provide food for their families,” said State Republican Party Chairman Tim Berry. “To honor the governor's birthday and his dedication to those less fortunate, we are asking for our convention participants to donate to the Community Harvest Food Bank. Together, we have an opportunity to make a positive impact on our convention's host community and surrounding areas.”

“We are humbled and honored that Governor Pence is so selflessly willing to celebrate his birthday by honoring the work of Community Harvest Food Bank,” said Community Harvest Executive Director Jane Avery. “His generosity, coupled with the generosity of the Indiana Republican Party State Convention Delegates, means so much to the 21,100 unique individuals we serve in our nine county northeast Indiana region each and every week. Governor Pence continues to demonstrate what it means to be a servant leader as he celebrates his special day by focusing our collective attention on the plight of hungry Hoosiers.”
