Dog Attacks and Kills Indiana Baby in Ohio

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) _ Authorities say a 7-month-old boy attacked and killed by a dog in southwestern Ohio was from Indiana.

The Montgomery County coroner's office in Ohio said Monday that autopsy results showed Jonathon Quarles Jr., of Indianapolis, died of multiple injuries from the attack. Police say the baby's step-grandmother was watching him for the day in Dayton when her dog attacked and killed him Sunday afternoon.

Police Lt. Wendy Stiver said Monday that an animal control officer removed the dog and police are investigating. Authorities say it was unclear why the dog attacked.

Police say animal control identified the dog registered at the step-grandmother's address as an American Staffordshire terrier, which resembles a pit bull.

A police report last month shows a dog registered at that address attacked and injured another dog.
