DNR Unveils Gypsy Moth Plan for Allen, Whitley County

INDIANAPOLIS (WOWO): Gypsy Moths are being targeted in a DNR plan to stop the destruction caused by their caterpillars.

The agency will spray a 30 square mile area in southwestern Allen County and southeastern Whitley County with mating pheromones. The pheromones will confuse makes as they seek female partners.

Gyspy Moth caterpillars feed on trees and shrubs can cause lots of problems. The spraying is tentatively scheduled for May and September.

Before that spraying occurs, the DNR will meet with the public next week. A meeting Allen County residents is scheduled for Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Allen County Public Library's Aboite Branch.

Thursday, Whitley County residents are invited to a meeting 6 p.m. at Peabody Library in Columbia City.
