FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Indiana’s NewsCenter) – On Thursday, the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend provided additional detail into its internal investigation of a 2011 police report and termination of Matt Lindsay from Bishop Luers High School.

Sean McBride, a spokesman for the diocese, tells Indiana’s NewsCenter an IT worker was fixing Lindsay’s personal computer at school when the worker discovered inappropriate images on Lindsay’s personal computer.

Lindsay was placed on administrative leave on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

In an investigation that followed, diocesan counsel discovered inappropriate images on Lindsay’s school computer, leading to Lindsay’s termination on Sunday, September 16, 2012.

In response to a list of questions from our partners in news, The Journal Gazette, the diocese notified authorities of the images found less than 48 hours later.

The diocese provided Indiana’s NewsCenter a copy of the questions from The Journal Gazette and its responses.

In the responses, the diocese says a call to the Allen County Sheriff’s Department was placed on Friday, September 14, 2012, around 5:00 p.m. A second call was made on Monday, September 17, 2012. The call was returned on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

The reason for going to county law enforcement instead of city law enforcement was also made clear by the diocese. Reportedly, council for the diocese had previously worked with the county investigator on unrelated matters.

Also in the responses, the diocese says school officials learned of the August 2011 police report alleging Matt Lindsay took photographs at GlenAqua Swim Club in the summer of 2011.

“The school officials talked to several persons involved, and confronted Mr. Lindsay with the complaints and he denied them,” the diocesan responses said. “The pool incident was reported by parents to the police; to our knowledge, no charges against Mr. Lindsay were filed.”

The diocese said in its responses Bishop Luers principal Mary Keefer notified parents of students at the same time Luers announced the termination of Lindsay to the media on September 16, 2012.

A spokesperson for the sheriff’s department says leading up to the search of Lindsay’s home on Wednesday, nothing considered to be criminal in nature had been discovered on Lindsay’s work computer. An arrest warrant was not issued, and no charges have been filed against Lindsay.

It is not yet clear what, if anything, was discovered as a result of the search warrant.
