Department Of Labor And Fort Wayne Agree To Higher Safety Standards

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): As construction on the Skyline Garage in downtown Fort Wayne beings, the city is making itself a part of the safety solution.

The Indiana Department of Labor announced that the city has agreed to a health partnership with Ash Brokerage and Weigand Construction Company to implement strategic safety and health guidelines.

The agreement aimed to keep worker injury and illness rates lower than the Indiana industry average while building the Ash Skyline Plaza downtown. They say injuries can be eliminated when proper training happens with safety equipment.

Weigand Safety Director Greg Musi says, “It is an agreement and a unified concept that incorporates all the fundamentals of a successful construction project: Worker safety.”

Weigand Construction will require full protection for workers performing activities six or more feet above ground level. The partnership agreement will remain in effect until the project is completed in 2016.
