Democratic 3rd District Candidate Wants Recount

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) _ A candidate who's narrowly trailing the leader in the Democratic primary for northeastern Indiana's 3rd Congressional District says he wants a recount.

Tommy Schrader said Wednesday he'll seek a recount because the election results are so tight.

Unofficial results from Tuesday's primary show Justin Kuhnle leading Schrader by 83 votes with all precincts reporting.

Kuhnle had no immediate comment.

County clerks in the district say there are 31 provisional ballots remaining to count. That by itself isn't enough to swing the race in Schrader's favor. LaGrange County is double-checking but believes there are none there.

The third Democratic candidate, Jim Redmond, trailed Kuhnle by 294 votes.

The winner will face incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman in November.

The Republican race for Indiana District 48 remains too close to call.
