INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Indiana Democratic Party Chairman John Zody is deriding what he calls a “culture of corruption” among Indiana's Republican leaders following an investigation of a former state transportation official.

A state investigation released Friday cleared former transportation aide Troy Woodruff of wrongdoing in land deals and other controversies. But Zody said Woodruff's actions and others are hurting the “public trust.”

Woodruff is the third high-ranking Republican to have an ethics case decided this year.

House lawmakers determined Republican House Speaker Pro Tem Eric Turner did not violate any rules when he fought legislation that would have cost him millions in future profits. Inspector General David Thomas determined last month that former Schools Superintendent Tony Bennett could have avoided a penalty by rewriting agency rules to allow moderate campaigning with state resources.
