Day Care Where Boy Hanged Self, Ordered Closed

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (AP) _ The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration has ordered the closure of a northwestern Indiana day care center where a 5-year-old boy died after accidentally hanging himself with a jump rope.

FSSA spokeswoman Marni Lemons says Tricia's Playhouse in Michigan City has 30 days to appeal the closure.

LaPorte County Coroner John Sullivan says Amareon Williams died Monday from asphyxiation due to hanging after getting caught in a jump rope left hanging over an outside play fort.

Lemons tells WSJV-TV the licensed day care was on probationary status at the time and undergoing a plan of correction after an April 21 inspection found several violations. The problems included failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect.

Day care owner Tricia Calvin declined to comment on the closure.
