Daniels urges IU grads to avoid complacency…

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Gov. Mitch Daniels is challenging Indiana University graduates to avoid complacency and to move out of their comfort zones.

Daniels delivered the winter commencement speech Saturday at Assembly Hall on the Bloomington campus. He told graduates that college can be the ultimate comfort zone but now they’re moving beyond that in the first of a series of commencements over the rest of their lives.

Daniels said in prepared remarks released by his office that “every commencement means leaving behind the familiar and entering … into the unknown.” He says that’s a good thing because they will grow the most when they are challenged.

Daniels also urged the graduates assist those less fortunate, not merely by writing a check but also face to face, because they will grow from that, too.
