Daniels Cutting Trip Short after Purdue Shooting

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) – Purdue University President Mitch Daniels is cutting short a trip to Colombia after a fatal shooting on the West Lafayette campus.

Provost Tim Sands said Tuesday that Daniels was “stunned and saddened” by the shooting at the university's Electrical Engineering Building and was expected to return to campus Wednesday. He had been scheduled to be in Colombia all week on a university trip.

Purdue Police Chief John Cox says the shooting occurred around noon and that police received reports of four or five shots being fired. Students were ordered to take shelter until police cleared the campus.

Sands said Daniels ordered classes canceled through Wednesday.
