FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): After more than 20 years at 21Alive, Chief Meteorologist Curtis Smith is hanging up his umbrella.

He announced on Facebook Monday that he is leaving the station to take the Director of Public Outreach role at Parkview Health. His last show will be the 6 pm. newscast on Friday, April 29th.

“Curtis has been a great part of WOWO Radio for the past several years,” says Program Director Ryan Wrecker.  “He’s not only the voice of afternoon weather, but also contributed to our severe weather coverage as one of the most trusted personalities in northeast Indiana.  He will be missed.”

One of the more memorable moments for Curtis was the “Call It Off” campaign where local students across the area would rally for him to lobby schools to call off classes due to snow in the area.  The hashtag #callitoff at one point trended nationally on Twitter.
