Credit Union Offers Free Shredding, Identity Threat Tips

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Identity theft is a real threat and a local financial institution wants to limit your risk.

One of those ways is by shredding important documents that contain private information rather than only ripping it up and just dumping it in your trash.

3 Rivers Federal Credit Union is offering free shredding Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their Northland Campus near Lima Road. You can find out more by clicking here.

Jim Johnson is the Vice President of Member Services, he offers a number of other tips to minimize your risk.

*Pick the right password – don’t use names of family members or their birthdays.

*If you shop online only shop with reputable companies.

*Never share information on the phone or by e-mail. Financial institutions already have it! He says if you are ever in doubt, call them yourself and ask a rep you know and trust.

*Monitor your financial information like you would your children. Make it a daily effort to stay on top of your activities.
