Crash in Decatur Leaves One Person Dead and Others Injured

DECATUR, Ind. (WOWO): A crash Sunday evening in Decatur leaves one woman dead and four others injured. It happened around 4:00 P.M. on US 27 south of County Road 850 North, when, according to police, 47-year-old Tyler Cowans, of Decatur, was driving an SUV when a wheel came off, causing the vehicle to travel off the road and into a ditch, where it began to roll.

Cowans suffered head and internal injuries and was taken to Lutheran Hospital. A female front-seat passenger was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

19-year-old Mariah Cowans, of Decatur, 18-year-old Rick Stults, of Geneva, and 1-year-old Jaiden Cowans were in the vehicle and were also taken to Lutheran with internal injuries.

The conditions of the four injured are unknown at this time. The name of the deceased will be released after an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation.
