Court Leaders Warn Hoosiers of Fake Jury Duty Phone Calls

INDIANA, (WOWO): A possible scam involving fake jury duty phone calls is circulating the area and court leaders want to alert Hoosiers to be cautious.

Recently, judges in Henry and Hamilton counties learned that several residents have been receiving phone calls about missing jury service. The caller is accusing the individual of failing to appear for jury duty. Then says a way to resolve the situation is by appearing in court or by providing financial information to pay a fine.


While practices vary, Indiana courts never ask potential jurors (or those who missed jury duty) for money. Courts never ask for specific bank account numbers, credit card information or Personal Identification Numbers (PIN’s) and never call jurors and pressure them to reveal personal information-especially financial information.


In Indiana, all initial contact with potential jurors is conducted in writing through the mail.
