Council Pay Raise Fails

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Elected officials in Fort Wayne won't be getting a raise next year after all.

A motion before the Fort Wayne City Council to give the Council, Mayor and City Clerk a 2% raise each failed last night in a 4-4 tie. Council President John Crawford, one of the opponents of the measure, told the Journal Gazette some on the council were leery of raising what are already the highest salaries for elected officials in the whole state, saying he'd support continuing to freeze wages where they are.

Supporters like Tom Didier say the increase would have only amounted to an extra $454 per year for Council members, and he doesn't see it as a “big deal.”
