FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s trash collector was called on the carpet by the Fort Wayne City Council yesterday.

The Council spent an hour grilling representatives of Red River Waste Solutions, which took over as the city’s garbage collectors in January.

The Journal Gazette reports that Councilman Dr. John Crawford demanded at the company provide documentation of all of their services so the council can keep an eye on any improvements, and at one point called the public’s perception of the city’s trash service “God-awful.”

Red River representatives didn’t provide many solutions at last night’s meeting, instead again citing a shortage in drivers, high volumes of yard waste, and “other challenges” that popped up over Memorial Day Weekend.

The Council made it clear to Red River that they would not tolerate any more major issues, but one of the City’s attorneys said simply terminating their contract with the company might not be viable if they can’t prove a “material default” of the deal’s terms.
