Coroner IDs Indiana Man Who Died After Waiting for 911 Aid

GRIFFITH, Ind. (AP) _ A coroner has identified a northwestern Indiana man who died after calling 911 but didn't receive emergency care for 47 minutes because of a dispatch problem.

Lake County Coroner Merrilee Frey said Wednesday that 81-year-old Kenneth Booker of Griffith was pronounced dead at 9:15 p.m. Monday at Community Hospital in Munster. That was 80 minutes after Griffith police say he called the Lake County 911 center to report he was having trouble breathing.

Lake County E911 emergency dispatch Director Brian Hitchcock says the delay occurred after a dispatcher entered the wrong address into the system. The veteran dispatcher who handled the call has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation,

In June, inadequate information from dispatchers hindered paramedics' response to a man who reported chest pains and later died.
