BLOOMINGDALE, Ind. (AP) _ The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says preliminary autopsy results indicate the cause of death of a 27-year-old hiker who collapsed in a western Indiana creek was drowning.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the death of John Androusky of Rockville. They say he was hiking with a friend in the Sugar Creek Conservation Area of Parke County. The friend told officers Androusky swam across the creek and back and was standing near the water's edge when he collapsed Monday.
Conservation Officer Max Winchell says divers recovered Androusky's body about an hour later. His body was found in about 8 feet of water upstream of the Jackson Covered Bridge near the town of Bloomingdale, about 25 miles north of Terre Haute.
The death has been ruled an accident.
