Convention CEO Calls for Broader LGBT Protections

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The CEO of one of Indiana's largest conventions says the state should pass broader civil rights protections for the lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender community.

Adrian Swartout of the gaming convention Gen Con said on its opening day Thursday that failing to offer such protections “just seems wrong.''

Her call comes after a national outcry over Indiana's new religious objections law, which critics decried as anti-LGBT until a legislative fix was approved.

Swartout says Chicago and other cities in states with LGBT protections are trying to entice the convention to relocate.

Gen Con is expected to draw more than 50,000 people to Indianapolis, generating millions of dollars in revenues.

Swartout says a competitive offer could lure Gen Con away but also that the Indiana Legislature should be given time to act.
