Cold Case From 1999 Being Tried in Allen Superior Court

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A trial has begun this week in Allen Superior Court that has roots all the way back to June 1999.

Roger Carlson faces a count of rape and two counts of criminal deviate conduct as well as a count of criminal confinement.

According to the News-Sentinel, DNA collected from the victim after the 1999 attack finally matched last year to Carlson's DNA. Carlson allegedly attacked and raped the victim in his truck while armed with a gun after a night of drinking at a bar.

The case was cold for 14 years until Indiana State Police matched the DNA. Carlton was extradited back to Indiana last year after fleeing Ossian over an unrelated case.

The trial phase is expected to conclude by the end of Thursday.
