City of Fort Wayne Reminds You To Keep Leaves Out of Storm Drains

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): With heavy rains from the remnants of Patricia approaching the area, the city wants to remind you to watch where you rake falling leaves.

Street flooding becomes a problem this time of year when leaves block storm sewer inlets. People are raking leaves to the curb for the fall leaf collection and it's easy for stray leaves to end up in storm drains.

The city is reminding residents to leave leaves on the park strip between the curb and sidewalk, or just on the curb itself and NOT on the street if a park strip doesn't exist. You're also encouraged to call 311 and bag your leaves for pickup.

And of course, you're asked to check storm drains that might have wet leaves accumulated in them to prevent flooding.
