FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): The City of Fort Wayne will no longer outsource their fleet maintenance services.

The change is expected to improve services and reduce costs by nearly $350,000 a year by bringing operations in-house.

The City’s contract with First Vehicle Services to maintain snow plow trucks, road paving equipment, police and fire vehicles, and more will end on September 29th. Current workers for First Vehicle Services were offered jobs with the city’s Public Works department, and most have accepted.

If the City had remained with First Service, this year’s fleet costs would be $4,847,249.  Under the City-run fleet maintenance operation, the cost for this year would be $4,503,400.
