City Cancels Labor Day Parade Over Too Few Entries

ELKHART, Ind. (AP): Elkhart has called off its Labor Day parade because of too few entries.

This was supposed to be the third year for the city's parade, with the city parks department organizing the parade that was followed by a picnic sponsored by the North Central Indiana AFL-CIO.

City parks superintendent Karin Frey tells The Elkhart Truth the cancellation decision came when only nine entries had been confirmed. She says last year's parade had 27 entries and even more the previous year.

North Central Indiana AFL-CIO president says the parade cancellation become apparent after no high school marching bands had registered.

Flora says they will try to revive the parade next year.
