**UPDATE** Child dies after near drowning situation

**UPDATE**: The child, 2-year-old Delonte Nelson, has died. The cause and manner of death are pending. The original story continues below.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): A child is fighting for its life after a near drowning situation.

Around 9:30 p.m., Sunday, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department were called to a location on the southeast side of town on reports of a missing child. Once on the scene, they found the child in an above ground swimming pool, not breathing. The child was taken to a nearby hospital and was last reported to be in critical condition.

Police tell our partners in news at ABC 21, the age and gender of the child are not being released at this time.

Meanwhile, many questions remain unanswered as an investigation is underway.
