INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WOWO): Sixty-six children in Indiana died due to neglect or abuse during the 2014 fiscal year.

The state’s Department of Child Services released a report Wednesday detailing the deaths, with the Journal Gazette reporting an increase in statewide child deaths of 25%.

Two children each died in Allen, Kosciusko and Whitley Counties due to neglect during the study’s time period, while one died from abuse in Huntington County. The deaths ranged from shootings to drownings to being left in hot cars.

DCS Director Mary Beth Bonaventura said each of those deaths could have been prevented. Governor Mike Pence has promised to hire more DCS workers to try and catch cases of abuse and neglect sooner.
