Chicken Pox Outbreak in Vigo County

The Vigo County Health Commissioner has declared a chicken pox outbreak with 57 cases so far of the infectious disease. Commissioner Dr. Enrico Garcia says Vigo County has 57 cases of chicken pox so far this year after no more than 22 any of the previous three years. WTHI-TV and the Tribune-Star report the Vigo County Health Department and Vigo County School Corp. will conduct shot clinics next week targeting children who have not been optimally immunized for the disease. The school corporation says it has 421 students who are under vaccinated or lack documentation that they have been vaccinated. It says most students already have the required single dose for school immunization requirements, but need a second dose because of the outbreak.
