Chase Leaves Two in Serious Condition, Others in Police Custody

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne Police tried to pull a Chevrolet Avalanche over Thursday night around 10:00 P.M. at S. Hanna and E. Lewis Streets. The vehicle instead led police on a pursuit during which officers say the driver showed no regard for the safety of others. The Avalanche eventually turned on S. Anthony Blvd., and when it got to the intersection at E. Rudisill Blvd, it went around stopped vehicles and ran a red light, hitting a truck in the intersection. The Avalanche finally stopped after hitting a tree in a front yard. The driver was taken into custody, but a passenger ran toward Lillie Street. While a K-9 tracked the suspect, police got a call of a burglary in progress, and officers found the passenger inside the home. The passenger had an active warrant, and narcotics were found in the suspect vehicle. Police say the Gang and Violent Crimes Unit is investigating, as occupants in the car are known gang members. The two people in the truck that was hit were taken to a hospital in serious condition. At last report, the suspects were being interviewed by detectives and will then be arrested.
