Central Indiana Treasurer Pleads Guilty to Mishandling Funds

ANDERSON, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana county treasurer has pleaded guilty to mishandling public funds under a plea deal that calls for him to resign.

Delaware County Treasurer John Dorer pleaded guilty Monday to failure to properly deposit public funds during a hearing before a special Madison County judge in Anderson.

The 51-year-old Dorer was then sentenced to the three days he spent last April in the Delaware County Jail.

The Star Press reports (http://tspne.ws/1zavQZ8 ) Dorer's plea calls for the remaining 46 charges he faced to be dismissed.

Delaware County prosecutors sued Dorer last year, alleging state audits for 2010 through 2012 documented “continuing and pervasive instances of nonfeasance'' by Dorer.

Dorer's plea deal calls for him to immediately resign and never again seek a public office that's subject to a state audit.
