FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WOWO): Fort Wayne’s population is up.

The number of people who call Fort Wayne “home” is up by almost 2,000 people, compared to five years ago, according to 2015 population estimates released by the US Census Bureau.

The city’s total population is now a little more than 260,000.

The most population growth was in Hamilton County, with a 13 percent jump. Four of the five fastest growing Indiana counties and 10 of the 11 fastest-growing cities and towns are in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.

The cities of Gary and Hammond had the largest population declines, with each losing more than 800 residents.
