Business Filing Eases Kasich Closer to 2016 Presidential Bid

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Ohio Gov. John Kasich is positioning to raise money for the potential 2016 presidential bid he says he's “seriously considering.''

The Republican governor's supporters incorporated an Ohio nonprofit Tuesday in preparation for forming a federal fundraising committee. The nonprofit's name, New Day for America, is a spinoff of Kasich's re-election campaign slogan.

A person close to the organization told The Associated Press on Thursday that the filing made by Washington-based attorney Mark Braden must occur before Kasich can form a 527 or PAC to fund multistate travel and other expenses.

The person wasn't authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. A message seeking comment was left with Braden.

Kasich is a former U.S. House budget chairman. He returns to South Carolina and New Hampshire this weekend.
