Boy Killed, Father Badly Hurt from Moped Crash

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) _ Police say a 7-year-old boy was fatally injured and his father badly hurt when the moped they were riding was hit by an SUV on a central Indiana highway.

Columbus police Sgt. Matt Harris says the pair was riding on a four-lane section of U.S. 31 on the city's north side about 7:45 p.m. Tuesday when the moped was hit. Harris tells The Republic that the SUV driver told officers he didn't see the moped before hitting it, and witnesses said the moped's rear light was dim.

Harris says Skyler Bruner was taken by helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children, where he died late Tuesday. Twenty-nine-year-old Darrell Bruner was driving the moped and was in critical condition at an Indianapolis hospital.
